Lagos Governorship: Supreme Court Affirms Sanwo-Olu’s Victory
The Supreme Court has confirmed that Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s election as Lagos State Governor is valid. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party candidate, argued that Sanwo-Olu’s running mate, Obafemi Hamzat, was not eligible because he had allegedly renounced his Nigerian citizenship. However, the court ruled that Hamzat is still a Nigerian citizen and that there was no evidence to support the claim that he had renounced his citizenship. The court dismissed the Labour Party candidate’s appeal as invalid.
Additionally, Abdulazeez Adediran from the PDP argued that the name on Sanwo-Olu’s WAEC certificate did not match the name he used to register with INEC.
