Atiku Abubakar Vows to Run for Nigerian President Until His Last Breath

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice-president of Nigeria, has expressed his unwavering determination to continue running for the presidency as long as he remains in good health and alive. During an interview on the Hausa service of the Voice of America in Abuja, he affirmed his intention to persistently participate in future elections.

Atiku drew a parallel between his political journey and that of former US President Abraham Lincoln, who also faced multiple defeats before eventually winning. He acknowledged that winning the presidency would require more than his individual efforts, highlighting the importance of strong support and collaboration with other political parties, especially given the current state of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

By the time the next presidential election takes place in 2027, Atiku will be 81 years old. Despite having run for the presidency six times, he has appeared on the ballot as a presidential candidate in three instances: 2007, 2019, and 2023.
