How NNPC and Golar’s 500 MMSCF Floating LNG Deal Impacts the Industry

The NNPC Limited has signed an agreement with Golar LNG to set up a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility off the coast of the Niger Delta. This facility will supply 400-500 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d) of gas.

The signing ceremony took place in Abuja, attended by key officials from both companies, including NNPC’s Chief Financial Officer Umar Ajiya, Executive Vice President of Gas Power & New Energy Olalekan Ogunleye, and Executive Vice President of Upstream Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan. Golar LNG’s team was led by their CEO, Karl Fredrik Staubo.

According to NNPC’s Chief Communication Officer, Olufemi Soneye, this agreement is a significant step towards utilizing Nigeria’s gas resources efficiently. It aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goal to boost the country’s economy by commercializing its gas assets. The project will tap into Nigeria’s proven gas reserves in shallow waters and use 400-500 mmscf/d to produce LNG, LPG, and Condensate.

Soneye added that both NNPC Limited and Golar LNG are committed to making a Final Investment Decision by the end of the fourth quarter of 2024 and to start gas production by 2027.

Golar LNG Limited is a well-known company that owns and operates LNG infrastructure, including carriers, floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), and floating liquefaction (FLNG) vessels.
